My biography and life before b:hip
Before diving into the world of b:hip, I studied everything related to makeup and styling. I worked on events like weddings and for a modeling agency, where I taught makeup courses to help models dazzle doing it themselves.
I ventured into a course of studies in International Relations, balancing the creativity of makeup with the seriousness of college. Although I did this to comply with the ‘social pressure’ of having a university degree in Mexico, it honestly frustrated me in some way.
But everything happens for a reason, and this contrast in my life led me, with my color palette and my global perspective, to explore new opportunities – and discover b:hip!
Why did I decide to join b:hip?
When I was a stylist, I was working all day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with barely half an hour for lunch and no time to enjoy the money I was earning. I was constantly asking myself if that was the life, I really wanted – and I started to look for work flexibility to have more freedom.
En ese entonces, mis papás ya eran parte de la familia b:hip, mientras yo era la “oveja negra” que no entendía mucho lo que hacían. Básicamente, ¡era anti b:hip!
At that time, my parents were already part of the b:hip family and I was the “black sheep” who didn’t really understand what they were doing. In short, I was anti-b:hip.
However, something started to change.
My exhausting routine made me curious about the lifestyle my parents enjoyed thanks to b:hip, which had plenty of freedom and travelling. In 2015, I dove into the world of b:hip – mainly because of the work freedom promise.
I started before the implementation of Michael Sarfelt’s System, so we were working in the traditional way. Although I still had my job, in June 2015 I decided to take the big leap and dedicate myself to b:hip full time.
A month later, I met Michael. And that changed everything.
The whole perspective of the business turned around, especially when I discovered that the entire b:hip process could be done online and through networking. It was like the pieces fell into place.
So here I am, enjoying the freedom, walking the b:hip path and finding true passion in what I do. I decided this was what I wanted to do in my life forever!
Then, my life changes completely
In this chapter of my life, everything changes radically. For me, it was a turning point – not only financially, but in many other aspects as well.
I used to be introverted, shy and quiet. Talking to people was challenging for me. So, the first changes were noticeable on a personal level, since working for b:hip has helped me believe more in myself and be braver. A new version of Karla started to emerge.
Financially, the story became even more exciting. In just six months, I closed the Sapphire rank and went from earning 0 to USD 5,000 a month. At first, I didn’t even realize how well I was doing. At the time, b:hip was in its beginnings and there weren’t many to compare results with. It was a very fast rise.
But the story doesn’t end there. After 10 months, I reached the Ruby rank and my life changed completely – I started earning USD 10,000 a month. Imagine my happiness: I was only 25 years old, single, living on my own and feeling incredibly fulfilled with my work. I also had to learn how to manage my money, and everything combined was just like a roller coaster of emotions and lessons.
So here I am, sharing my story with you, grateful for every change and challenge this journey has brought me.
My three main challenges as a b:hip distributor
Obviously, there have been many challenges on my business path – including some big ones. I have narrowed it down to the following three:
- From the beginning, I found myself under the magnifying glass of expectations. As I was the daughter of Carlos and Haydee Medellín, people assumed that I would think and act in a similar way.
But, surprisingly, I didn’t. While they were talking about freedom, I was working non-stop all day. While they saw opportunities for entrepreneurship, I had a different perspective.
It turns out that people either had huge expectations – or just didn’t expect anything from me. A real challenge! I always felt the pressure of having big shoes to fill and I had no choice but to face it.
At first, it was a challenge, but those expectations, whether positive or negative, became my “gasoline”. I set out to work tirelessly to achieve good results. I wanted to prove to myself that my success was the fruit of my work effort, not just my family lineage.
- My next challenge was the transition from being a ‘good girl’ to being a single mom who decided to take the reins of her life.
When things started going really well, I decided to take a bold step and move to Medellin, Colombia, facing an independent life for the first time. I have always been the girl with good grades, compliant with my parents, while my brother was the free spirit of the family.
My move to Medellín triggered a series of intense experiences. I was earning a lot of money, going to parties night after night – and then, at some point, I became a single mom. I had 10 months full of challenges where I almost lost my way. It was a crucial period where I had to learn to face the consequences of my decisions.
I had no choice but to ask myself what I was going to do. Giving up was the easy way out, but it wasn’t an option to me. I had to make the most of my situation to grow and move forward.
I decided to use my challenges as an engine to grow. And, amid motherhood and my challenges, I continued working. During that time, I went from Ruby to Diamond on pure determination.
- Just six months after me and my husband got married, he received a devastating blow: he was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer!
It was a very hard moment. We had a heavy cross to bear. But the incredible thing was that, despite this challenge, we were doing very well at work.
Amid this personal storm, we found in b:hip an unwavering support. We were fulfilled and rewarded for the results we achieved. This allowed us to cover all expenses related to medication and treatment. We had stability and resources when we needed them the most.
What characterizes a successful b:hip leader?
I would describe a leader in this business as someone with a good heart. B:hip leaders are people who, even though they make a lot of money, are very humble. That’s what I would highlight the most.
If my team loses motivation or focus, I try to inspire them through my experiences and the lessons I have learned. Essentially, I want to show them the life they can have if they hold on to their dreams. I remind them that if I can do it, so can they, as I consider myself a normal person with no great abilities.
I am not afraid to be direct with my team. In my Spanish trainings, I encourage them by telling them “Come on, don’t be lazy! Nobody achieves anything that way.” Although it can sound harsh, I say it with love and mean it from the heart.
At b: hip, we go straight to the point. Although it may hurt sometimes, learning is the foundation of change and success. We are generally very transparent and straightforward during our trainings.
How good are b:hip products?
The products are very good and beneficial. We are so different from the competition that people don’t even compare us to other products.
They are very well differentiated and positioned as well as unique in their benefits.
Is b:hip a pyramid scheme or a scam?
This question is very frequent, and thus I will answer it here. It is something we have to respond to on a daily basis, especially in Colombia, where unfortunately a lot of pyramid businesses have swindled many people by selling them smoke and mirrors.
At b:hip, we are transparent from day 1: We know that money does not fall from the sky. The key to success is hard work, effort, and consistency. We don’t sell dreams of instant wealth, but we do offer a real opportunity for those who are willing to put in the work.
We understand that some people mistakenly associate b:hip with pyramid schemes or scams because they have read it somewhere online. In the beginning, we didn’t pay much attention to this issue – but because our growth was so massive, it’s impossible to avoid negativity completely. Even if it’s untrue.
But, once people go through our training process and attend seminars, they realize that b:hip is the opposite of a pyramid scheme or a scam. They understand what the business is all about – and any doubts are cleared.
In Colombia, we are present in several cities, such as Medellin, Armenia, Cali, Bucaramanga and many more – a total of approx. 15 cities. Our main office is in Bogota. We also have part of our incredible team in Mexico and Peru, and we continue to expand throughout Latin America.
The trainings are mainly done in Bogota, and we also offer online training to support people in other countries.
You are all invited to be part of our team. We choose to live life with positive energy, purpose, and growth. Thank you for being part of this journey full of lessons, virtual hugs to all of you!
